Hello, I'm Tia Stevens and I am a AMFT. I enjoy travelling, cooking and spending time with my family. I also love to read, but probably enjoy shopping for books more than reading.
I love working with...
I love working with couples, whether it is premarital counseling or have been together for many years. I have training in Gottman Method level 1, and love working with a system in navigating change. I also enjoy working with adult individuals struggling with anxiety, depression or navigating life transitions.
Some of my favorite approaches include...
the Gottman Method (Level 2 Trained), Solution Focused Therapy, CBT and DBT. I view the client/therapist relationship as a crucial part of the the therapeutic process. Without trust and rapport, navigating difficult conversations may be tough, but with a strong rapport, trust and safety can allow change to feel natural. My goals for my clients is to feel confident in using the skills learned in therapy outside of the office when navigating life.
How I help...
My style as a therapist is direct mixed with a laid back and relaxed approach. I strive to be my full self in the therapy room with my clients.
I believe...
...that what may going on is a reflection of the environment/system. When we are able to understand the system and how the environment may be influencing our thoughts, behaviors and actions, we are able to identify the areas to reduce the symptoms that may be occurring.
What it's like in session with me
In session with me, you'll be met with a smile and a relaxed environment. During your first session, we get an overview of what is currently going on and establish goals for services. Following the first session, I take your lead in regards to the topic of session. I will challenge thoughts where appropriate, as well as highlight the strengths and progress being made. I enjoy connecting and finding those small moments that make therapy feel a little less intimidating.
