Hi! I'm Robin Gutschow (she/her/hers) and I am an AMFT. Before becoming a therapist, I was a kindergarten and third grade teacher and high school lacrosse coach. I am a mom to a beautiful little boy and a rambunctious Golden Retriever pup, happily married to a caring, technologically inclined (thank goodness) husband, love to be active outdoors or cozying up with a good book, enjoy baking and traveling, and strive to create meaningful relationships to live a purposeful life.
I love working with...
Families with young children, young adults, and couples/people who are navigating life transitions such as pregnancy, birth of a child, marriage, and infertility.
Some of my favorite approaches include...
Within all that I do, I remain Person Centered, Trauma Informed, and culturally sensitive to support my clients. I often utilize techniques from evidence-based treatment including:
Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
Strengths Based Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
With couples and families, I have training in Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy.
How I help...
Therapy is a place for growth and discovery, but also can be very vulnerable for people of all ages. I fundamentally believe that progress is made only when physical and emotional safety is met; therefore, I will always prioritize meeting my clients where they are at in a respectful, genuine, and empathetic manner. I feel honored to hold space and embrace the joyous and messy parts of life with my clients.
I believe...
Everyone is worthy and deserving of love and connection. I especially believe our children are good inside and it is connection that will foster that goodness.
I believe in fostering resilience and autonomy to help clients manage struggle and find their own power within it.
I believe we all need someone in our corner to support us in becoming the best version of ourselves and I feel honored to be that person for my clients.
What it's like in session with me
Creating a safe environment and a trusting therapeutic relationship are my first priorities when beginning therapy. You can expect open mindedness, non-judgement, empathy, and warmth from me as we navigate the therapeutic process together. I will offer validation, psychoeducation to promote understanding, reflection, gentle challenges, creative solutions, and unique perspectives. In return, I always encourage your feedback to promote an environment that feels safe and authentic.
