“One of the best guides to how to be self-loving is to give ourselves the love we are often dreaming about receiving from others”

Hello, I’m Kiana Wiley (she/hers) and I’m a pre-licensed therapist (AMFT) born and raised in San Diego. I identify myself as an affirmative, client-centered, trauma-informed, and inclusive therapist who tailors therapy to meet the client needs. I hold a social-justice and anti-racism framework inside and outside of my therapy work. I have a background in college-level career counseling, mentorship, and stigma research. Thank you for taking the time to read about me!
I love working with...
I am passionate about working with children, teenagers, caregivers/parents, and transitional-aged adults (18-24) from diverse backgrounds; women’s issues; and focusing on folks from marginalized/disenfranchised communities. My areas of expertise include but aren’t limited to: PTSD, life transitions/changes, grief and loss, self esteem, depression, anxiety, and interpersonal relationship conflict.
Some of my favorite approaches include...
I often use a systemic framework whether I’m working with an individual or multi-person unit. I utilize various models including but not limited to Bowenian, DBT, ACT (accepting thoughts and living according to values), Narrative Therapy, Play Therapy, Art Therapy, Sandplay, CBT, and TF-CBT techniques. My goal is creating a non-judgmental space you feel seen, heard, respected, and valued where you can be the expert on your experiences and allow me to guide you through this process. Therapy is challenging work and I commend you for taking this first step toward your healing.
How I help...
My communication style is conversational, compassionate and humorous when appropriate. This approach may include at times exploring unhelpful thinking patterns to help you gain insight and tools to improve overall quality of life. We may also work through challenges with activities and experiences hands on in therapy, such as art, play, or role plays.
I believe...
...it’s important to allow clients to guide the exploration at their own pace and for the therapist to meet them where they’re at.
What it's like in session with me
In the first sessions with me we will talk about intake items, what brought you in, how you are feeling, and what you are hoping to receive from our time together. We will discuss any concerns and questions you might have while getting to know each other. I encourage the client to reflect on if they are comfortable and if we are a good fit to go on the therapeutic journey.
